Pesky Seconds

Written 6 days ago

A lady with enchanting lures, her beauty apt, did signal me away

Now and then, I mark my mind, counting down that fateful day

A day, when soon enough, our hearts might mingle too and stay

I’ve counted May, I’ve counted June, I’ve counted down each day

I’ve planned the minutes, plotted hours, and yet the pesky seconds stay

First we met and then we loved, those two lonely hearts as harps did play

The songs of love, which had lost to time, the rusty muses hardly play

Yet on that day, the Muses rang as if their powers in request one pray

Now and then, I mark my mind, counting down that fateful day

A day when soon enough, our hearts might mingle too and stay

I’ve counted May, I’ve counted June, I’ve counted down each day

I’ve planned the minutes, plotted hours, and yet the pesky seconds stay

Yet now, with Muses singing chorus, my lively heart begs the seconds stay

Always cruelly, time does turn its life too short, pushing precious loves away

Yet on those days of slowly turning, I hope time halts in place on that fateful day

May tomorrow never come, so that lady will not turn and signal me away

If I prayed for one small feat, please let these pesky seconds stay
